Healing That Keeps Your Artwork Looking Sharp

Tattoo Aftercare in Victoria for fresh ink that heals clean and vibrant

Lil Pixie Tattoo provides detailed aftercare guidance for every client in Victoria because your new tattoo is an open wound while it begins healing. Taking good care of it is just as important as the tattoo itself. Every tattoo and client can be different, so always follow your artist's specific instructions first.

Proper aftercare determines how well your tattoo heals and how vibrant the ink stays over time. The process involves keeping the area clean, lightly moisturized, and protected from sources of bacteria or irritation. Your artist will explain exactly which products to use and how often to apply them based on the size, placement, and style of your tattoo.

Schedule your appointment to discuss healing expectations and receive personalized aftercare instructions for your specific tattoo.

What Happens During The First Wash

After your appointment, your artist will wrap your fresh tattoo with saran wrap. Leave the wrap on until you are able to get to a clean, sanitary place to safely remove it and wash your tattoo for the first time. Once you're somewhere clean, remove and discard the wrap. With freshly washed hands, gently wash your tattoo using lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap using only your hands—no washcloths, loofahs, or anything abrasive.

You'll gently remove any excess ink, plasma, or residue, then pat the tattoo dry with a clean disposable paper towel or allow it to air dry. Once completely dry, apply a very thin layer of the aftercare product recommended by your artist. Your tattoo should be lightly moisturized, not wet, greasy, or smothered. Unless your artist specifically instructs you otherwise, do not re-wrap the tattoo with saran wrap after your first wash.

If you choose to use Saniderm or another adhesive tattoo wrap, follow your artist's instructions along with the product's directions for application, removal, and how long it should remain in place. Some fluid collecting underneath adhesive wrap can be normal during the first day or two. However, if the seal breaks, the wrap begins leaking, or part of the tattoo becomes exposed, the wrap is no longer providing a sealed barrier. When removing adhesive wrap, go slowly and gently under warm running water to make the process more comfortable.

Questions About Healing Your New Tattoo

Clients in Victoria often have similar concerns during the first few weeks of healing, especially if this is their first tattoo.

  • What should I do while my tattoo is healing?

For the next couple of weeks, keep your tattoo clean and lightly moisturized using a gentle, fragrance-free product recommended by your artist. Avoid soaking your tattoo in baths, pools, hot tubs, lakes, rivers, or the ocean, though showers are perfectly fine.

  • How do I know if something is wrong with my healing tattoo?

Some mild redness, tenderness, swelling, itching, flaking, and a small amount of clear or ink-tinted fluid can be normal during the early stages of healing. However, redness that continues spreading, increasing warmth or swelling, worsening pain, pus-like drainage, red streaking, fever, or feeling unwell should not be ignored.

  • Why is my tattoo dry and flaky?

Your tattoo will likely become dry, itchy, flaky, or begin peeling as it heals, which is a normal part of the process. Do not pick, scratch, or peel it—let your skin do its thing naturally while keeping the area lightly moisturized.

  • When can I go back in the sun or apply sunscreen?

Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight while healing, and do not apply sunscreen until the tattoo is fully healed. Once healed, use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher whenever it will be exposed to the sun to prevent fading over time.

  • Can I send a photo if I'm worried about how my tattoo looks?

If you're unsure about something during the healing process, send your artist a clear photo in good lighting and let us know what you're experiencing. We're always happy to help with normal tattoo-healing questions, though if you're experiencing signs of infection or anything medically concerning, contact a qualified healthcare professional.

Lil Pixie Tattoo remains available to answer healing questions and review photos of your tattoo as it progresses. Send us a picture before you search the internet and convince yourself something is terribly wrong—we've got you covered with clear guidance based on what we actually see.
